What is F3S?

The Florida Society of the Social Sciences (F3S) is a graduate student organization at the University of Florida. Our primary focus is hosting the annual Conference of the Social Sciences during the spring semester. The conference provides an opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students in a variety of academic fields to present innovative research, brainstorm ideas and collaborate with their peers. It also serves as a setting for both the academic and Gainesville community to socialize and network in a cooperative and educational environment. Many of the students involved in this conference will be tomorrow’s community, economic, and educational leaders, and the support of the local community is vital to their academic achievement.

Organized and planned by members of the F3S, the conference has grown and expanded across colleges, disciplines and research topics over the past eight years. Our annual conference attracts nearly 200 participants from more than 13 different departments and four colleges across campus. With each successive year, the conference becomes more diverse in reflecting broader ranges of research issues.

F3S is hoping to expand our leadership and planning committees across disciplines this year. We have bi-weekly meetings to discuss the organization and plan for our next conference. The 9th Conference of the Social Sciences will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

If you are interested in F3S and would like more information please email Jess (Co-President) at jlmetcalf@ufl.edu.

We look forward to hearing from you!
